To invigilate and provide assistance with an upcoming temporary pop-up art exhibition showing down Humber Street, Hull. The exhibition will show work created at the Royal Drawing School by local artist Lauren Saunders (www.laurensaundersart.co.uk) and is supported by YVAN, Shape Arts, artist network, Disability Arts Online and Wykeland.
Dates to be confirmed but in the daytime throughout November/December 2019. Any time you can spare will be appreciated, whether it’s only a few hours, a regular time each week, for part of the day or all day.
What will I be doing?
Creating a welcoming and professional environment by providing a warm smile, friendly conversation and general assistance to visitors. Volunteers will also ensure that the work is not damaged or removed and that the space remains tidy.
As part of the exhibition programme, you could also support the artist with facilitating workshops, talks or other events. Volunteers are also welcome to assist with install and destall and get stuck in ‘behind the scenes’.
And of course, you’re free to use use the quieter periods to finally read that book, create a masterpiece, practice your guitar or finish that essay you’ve been putting off!
Please be aware that you may be on your own in the space or be asked to open/lock up, but you won’t be expected to do anything that you’re not comfortable with.
What else do I need to know?
Experience of invigilating helpful, but not essential. So long as you’re reliable and professional, friendly and don’t need heavy supervision, you’re perfect!
There will be a healthy supply of tea, coffee and biscuits, and there will be heating, an onsite toilet and somewhere to store your bicycle. Training and additional guidance will be provided nearer the time.
What’s in it for me?
Y’mean, aside from doing me a proper favour and earning my eternal gratitude? You’ll get to meet a whole load of new people whilst gaining gallery experience and developing your transferable skills in a cool arts space alongside a cool local artist.
References can be given too if it helps; I’m keen to help volunteers in any way I can in exchange for helping me, so let me know what you need!
Ok, I’m interested. What next?
Drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with a bit about yourself/experience (including any access needs) and your day/time preferences, and we’ll go from there. Feel free to ask any questions too 😊
Thank you loads you lovely people!
