Leeds Climate Labs

I was part of the Leeds Climate Labs, a programme where the University of Leeds’ Cultural Institute partnered with the Priestly Institute for Climate Futures to pair University academics with practising artists.

‘As the impacts of climate change become ever more visible, so too does the need for creative, interdisciplinary approaches to addressing them. Leeds Creative Labs: Climate Futures brings together artists and researchers to explore new ways of thinking, making and collaborating across disciplines — opening space for innovation, reflection and action.’

I was paired with Dr Elspeth Mitchell, a Fine Arts Lecturer (with a specialism in feminism) and amateur mycologist. We met, learnt about one another, found a tonne of connections, had an exploration day in Hull, and presented our activities back to the Climate Labs collective.

Since the project, Elspeth and I have continued to collaborate on ambitious funded projects, such as the Queer Mycology Lab.
