“Rewilding Practice is a year-long programme offering up to 10 emerging artists an intensive research and practice-based programme developed with an industry partner, G F Smith (paper manufacturer). This part-time programme encourages artists to observe and research paper production processes, particularly those aimed at reducing environmental impact.” – Feral Art School
I recognised that it may too much of a jump in perspective for most modern, Western audiences to get fully on board with the way of Being with the Earth (i.e. respectful, equitable kinship with the natural world) because they haven’t gone through all those years of thinking and feeling that I tussled with to get to that point.
Therefore, my next stage of practice (which I’m exploring within this programme) is around creating stories, practical examples and aesthetic experiences that offer audiences a clearer and accessible ‘route in’ to nature connection. Although I’m working on a few things simultaneously, folk myth-making, ritual and song now feels a highly important element of this.
