“CloverLore was a six-week collaborative and creative exploration of the historic, natural and cultural heritage of the South Blockhouse monument in Hull, led by local artist-facilitator Lauren Saunders and funded by the Hull Maritime Creative Communities Grant in Autumn 2024. Using the monuments unique cloverleaf architecture as a starting point, five participants were supported to engage with the site and its history, uncover interesting stories and respond creatively in their own way.
The mutually supportive group co-created the programme of activity based on their own sharable expertise and emergent interests, resulting in three weeks researching on-site and at the Hull History Centre, before spending three weeks in the backroom of a local pub responding creatively to our findings.
The CloverLore group then shared their creative and interdisciplinary research and responses towards understanding and celebrating the fascinating history of Hull’s South Blockhouse monument in a limited edition zine.
The CloverLore Project and subsequent zine was produced and delivered by Lauren Saunders and funded by the Hull Maritime South Blockhouse Creative Communities Grant Scheme. Featured artwork, poetry and photographs (in print and online) supplied by facilitator Lauren and participants M, Onyx Ocean, Sam Phillips, Kathyln Smith and Nadine Storrer.
